Leadership coach and former senior detective

Andy served as the Head of Major Crime for Lancashire Police, overseeing all homicide and major crime investigations. He retired as a Detective Superintendent in 2021 after 30 years distinguished service. As a seasoned Senior Investigating Officer, he led the police response to numerous complex and high-profile murder cases.

Since leaving the police, Andy has developed leadership training programmes that focus on decision-making, risk and threat management, effective communication, and collaborative working. Leveraging his extensive real-world experience, Andy shares the techniques and processes he employed as an effective leader, which are highly applicable across both the public and private sectors.

He regularly performs independent reviews for local authorities and companies, enabling current best practise and lessons learned to be threaded throughout the training sessions, thereby maximising the learning outcomes. This presentation includes examples of crisis working whilst delivering aid and medical equipment across Ukraine as part of a voluntary network.

What Training Courses Does Andy Run With Understanding ModernGov?
Andy currently runs two flagship programmes: Making Difficult Conversations Easier, which helps leaders navigate high-stakes dialogue with clarity, empathy and impact; and Crisis Management in an Era of Ever-Increasing Turmoil, which equips teams to lead with resilience and decisiveness through complex, high-pressure situations. Both programmes are grounded in real-world experience and focus on building lasting capability, not just short-term fixes.
