For a short time she worked as a local authority adviser. She taught for ten years in a number of schools, including five years as head of mathematics in an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school where she worked closely with feeder primary schools initiating strategies for enabling primary-secondary transition and cross-phase approaches to assessment.
