Sarah Mitchell

Former Director of TEASC, Local Government Association

Sarah Mitchell is the former Director of Towards Excellence in Adult Social care, supporting Directors to deliver the very best social care services in the most challenging times.

Sarah has 30 years’ worth of experience in local and central government and the NHS. She has held numerous chief officer, policy and project management roles, but started her career in nursing and care. She recently managed Adult Social Care in Surrey, leading on the implementation of the Health and wellbeing board and also managing the Fire Service.

At the Department of Health she was a senior civil servant working directly with Ministers on the national lead for older people and continuing health care. Sarah has also managed teams in London and Leeds. She has also been an Inspector with the Social Services Inspectorate.

Sarah has a reputation for being creative and innovative, working with user led organisations and carers to co design and co-produce services. She believes strongly in sector led improvement as the intelligent way of improving services and delivering better outcomes.
