Sara Alston

SEND and Safeguarding Consultant and Trainer, SEA Inclusion and Safeguarding

Sara works both a practicing Primary School SENCo and as an independent SEND and Safeguarding Consultant. During 30 years of teaching, her fundamental motivation has remained the same: to make a difference to children’s lives. Over the years, Sara has developed different specialist and leadership skills in a range of areas including RE, History, Geography, English, but particularly in Special Needs and Safeguarding. She has pursued these interests at national and local level, as well as within schools.

For the past 5 years, she has been a multi-agency trainer for the Surrey Safeguarding Children Board.

Two years ago, Sara established her own Consultancy and Training business: SEA Inclusion and Safeguarding. This has allowed her to take her vision of what makes excellent education for all children and the key role of outstanding SEND and Safeguarding provision to a wider audience. In this role, she has worked with over 10 schools, Surrey and Southend Local Authorities, a number of MATs and a variety of faith organisations to provide SENCo Support and Development, and Safeguarding training and Leadership Mentoring, as well as carrying out SEND and Safeguarding Audits. Sara is working with Civica Education Resource to support their development of a suite of online education resources, including a Safeguarding Auditing and Self-evaluation tool.

Sara blogs regularly on a range of educational issues.
