Martin Moorman

Headteacher, Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College

Martin has worked at 4 special schools in a career spanning 31 years. His Bed Hons degree is in Special Education. He is one of the last cohort of trained teachers to hold that specialist and in his view, ‘much missed’ qualification.. After cutting his tetth at special schools in Stevenage, Warwickshire and Birmingham, he has worked for the last 24 years at Ravenscliffe High in Halifax: Calderdale’s only secondary special school, initially as Deputy Headteacher and since 2011 as Headteacher.

The school seeks to educate 180 young people with moderate, severe and complex learning difficulties. The school is passionate about developing independence skills, ukltimately leading to learning to travel independently and accessing paid work. In the last 12 years over 120 young people have become fully independent travellers and over 30 have accessed paid work.

Martin is married to Nicky, with 3 grown up children Rosie, Harry and Jake. In his spare time spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors and taking photographs remain his 3 keen interests. In 2017 after supporting his youngest son through 2 major bouts of brain surgery, he walked the 500 Camino de Santiago with Jake and counts this as one of his biggest accomplishments.
