Mark Anderson

Director of The European Office, Glasgow Caledonian University

Mark Anderson is Director of The Europe Office at Glasgow Caledonian University. His overall remit is to heighten the University’s research and knowledge transfer activities on the international stage, enhance international cooperation and increase student and staff mobility through EU programmes. From a standing start, he has helped the University to coordinate and participate in over 20 EU projects during the last 5 years including the coordination of a number of large FP7/Horizon2020 projects and several MSCA fellowships, one of which scored a maximum 100% in its evaluation.

As well as supporting the University’s academics in the development of proposals and management of projects, he has been directly involved in several EU funded projects including under the latest Erasmus+ calls. Between 2008 and 2012, he coordinated KICKSTART, an international network of Latin American and European partners (including Universities, government agencies, companies and Chambers of Commerce). In the latest Erasmus+ round, he has been awarded .5m euros for a Strategic Partnership for developing social innovation among students. Previously Mark worked for ten years in charge of EU programmes at the University of Salamanca’s Technology Transfer Office (O.T.R.I.) and is fluent in Spanish. He was involved in a number of EU Innovation Projects such as Global Start, which focussed on the phenomenon of “born-global” companies under PAXIS (Pilot Action for Excellence in Innovative Start-ups).
