Jo has over 16 years’ experience in Education Welfare, initially as an Education Welfare Officer (EWO); through Senior and most recently as Chief EWO. Her experience has focused on direct work with children, families and schools and in strategic support to schools to improve attendance. Alongside managing and supervising a team of EWOs Jo has been involved in training and development of EWOs regionally as a course tutor and NVQ assessor. She has been the lead for a Local Authority in Safeguarding in Education sitting on various Local Safeguarding Children Board subgroups, acting as the local area designated officer, IMR author and sitting on SCR panels and child death overview panels. Jo is an experienced trainer and has written, co-ordinated and delivered DMS and whole school training for the past 5 years and delivered Level 2 Safeguarding training on behalf of the LSCB.
Jo now works full time as founding director of Central School Attendance and Welfare Service (CSAWS). CSAWS is a team of proactive, passionate and committed Education Welfare Officers with collective Education Welfare and school experience of over 40 years and expert knowledge in all aspects of Education Welfare and Safeguarding. They offer support to identify and improve school attendance including reviewing, refining and advising on school approaches and processes.
Jo is currently commissioned to work with a large number of primary and secondary schools, Pupil Referral Units, alternative providers, post-16 providers and nurseries across the Midlands area in raising their attendance both overall and in individual cases.
