Elaine Shillcock

Elaine is an experienced specialist student support professional in both higher and further education.

She is responsible for providing disability-related advice and support to staff, students and applicants to the University of Manchester. This includes the overall day-to-day operation of a disability service employing 18 people. Advising the University on legal compliance and reasonable adjustments for disabled people under the Equality Act, managing the DSO budget and supervising all staff and student caseworkers. I am also responsible for the strategic vision and service development, and was responsible for the development of a new service for disabled staff, which was unique in the UK HE sector.

Elaine is Vice-Chair at NADP Supporting the National Association of Disability Practitioners and colleagues working in further and higher education with disabled students, shaping national policy and promoting disability equality.
