Elaine Cass

Practice Development Manager, Social Care Institute for Excellence

Elaine joined SCIE in 2004, she is a qualified social worker with 24 years’ experience in social care. Before joining SCIE, Elaine worked in residential care, as a social worker and as a team manager.

Elaine has managed a variety of projects at SCIE both commissioning out and working directly on a wide range of SCIE resources including guides, reports and films for social care TV. Elaine authored the Dignity in Care guide which was SCIE’s most popular resource for many years.

Elaine is now responsible for SCIE’s adult safeguarding work. Following the review of No Secrets Elaine managed and produced a range of resources, commissioned by the Department of Health, aimed at improving practice in adult safeguarding. Further resources to support implementation of safeguarding under the Care Act (2014) have followed.

Elaine now provides training sessions and reviews safeguarding policy and procedures for a range of customers (including housing associations, the health sector, independent providers, local authority staff and voluntary organisations). Elaine often speaks at national and local conferences and writes for journals on behalf of SCIE.
