David Mackintosh was elected Member of Parliament for Northampton South in May 2015. He had previously served as Leader of Northampton Borough Council for four years and is also a member of Northamptonshire County Council.
David was first elected to Northamptonshire County Council in June 2009 and to Northampton Borough Council in May 2011. He was re-elected as a County Councillor in May 2013 and announced that he will stand down at the next County Council elections following his election as the MP. He stood down from Northampton Borough Council in May 2015.
He became the youngest ever Leader of Northampton Borough Council in November 2011 and had previously served as Cabinet member for Community Services on the County Council. David served on the national Local Government Association’s Improvement and Innovation Board from 2012 to 2014.
David has served on two local enterprise partnership boards for Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership and for the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership, and serves on the Northampton Waterside Enterprise Zone.
David is a Patron of The Hope Centre in Northampton helping homeless people in the town and a Patron of The Caring and Sharing Trust in Northampton working with people who have learning disabilities.
In Parliament, David sits on the Select Committee for Communities and Local Group, and is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on the Armed Forces, Breast Cancer, Equitable Life, Health and Small Shops, and the British Parliamentary Groups for Africa, America, China, Japan and Sweden.
