Dan’s experience in higher education sector is in student engagement, student support, quality assurance, quality enhancement and change management at both institution and sector levels.
Dan heads the professional services in the School of Education at the University of Leicester, with particular responsibility for strategic and financial planning. Until recently, Dan led the University of Lincoln’s central student engagement team which is focused on enhancing the student experience through more collaborative working with students as partners and producers. Dan’s remit also included oversight of personal tutoring and peer support, and has involved leading reviews of assessment feedback, transition & induction and internationalisation amongst other things.
He is co-authoring ‘Developing Student Engagement in Higher Education’, a book that brings together current thinking on student engagement with practical strategies for change management in universities and colleges, using Lincoln as an in-depth case study throughout. The book is due for publication by Sage in early 2017.
Dan currently serves a member of Higher Education Funding Council for Wales’ Quality Assessment Committee, an institutional and agency reviewer for quality assurance agencies around Europe and regular conference keynote speaker on student experience and engagement. He has previously served as Chair of the European Quality Assurance Forum, an independent board member of the Quality Assurance Agency and independent chair of a strategy implementation group for the Northern Ireland Department for Employment and Learning.
