Alex Lawrence

Associate, Anthony Collins

Alex advises local government and the wider public sector on local government law, governance, decision making and commercial matters including the application of the public procurement and state aid rules.

Alex trained at Anthony Collins Solicitors and qualified as a solicitor in 2011 before spending several years as an in-house solicitor at Leicestershire County Council. In 2015, Alex was awarded the Law Society Diploma in Local Government Law and Practice with distinction and the Local Government Legal Society Trust prize for best candidate.

He regularly advises local authorities on the establishment and operation of Teckal compliant and trading (including joint venture) companies including advice on the power to establish and participate in companies, company law, and the relationship between councils and their companies with regard to governance arrangements, provision of funding and assets, public procurement and State aid. Alex has a pragmatic and commercial approach to delivering advice and often acts as a sounding board for clients on the development of business plans.
