Councillor Yvonne McNeilly has almost 30 years of experience as a local and regional councillor in both rural and urban areas – holding the education policy portfolio for many years of her local government career. As Education Vice Convener for Strathclyde Regional Council she worked with some of the biggest names in Scottish education to drive forward change and improvement while maintaining the national reputation for being one of the best places in the world for young people to learn and flourish. The change to unitary authorities saw Yvonne retaining the education portfolio when elected to Inverclyde Council, bringing her considerable experience to the authority’s delivery of education in dense and often deprived urban areas.
Now living in Dunoon, she was elected to Argyll and Bute Council in May 2017, representing the Cowal ward. She thrives on the challenge that accompanies the role of Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning with a council delivering education services to a very diverse mix of rural, remote, urban and island communities.
